The most common mistake we see in this business: a buyer spots a fabric at a trade fair, orders 5,000 metres without testing it, and three months later half their bags are peeling at the seams. It’s rarely about the price. It’s almost always about not knowing which specific property to look for.
We get calls about this regularly. Buyers placing their first bulk order. Manufacturers who’ve been let down by another supplier. Brands trying to scale up and not sure where to start. The questions are always the same: which fabric for bags, what works for sportswear in Indian summers, can the same cloth cover safety jackets and regular workwear?
We are Aadiveer Fab India, fabric manufacturers in India, and this is the same advice we give to buyers who call us every day.
Bags: Why Most Manufacturers End Up With Polyester
Bags take a lot of abuse. Stuffed full, dragged across floors, left out in the rain, shoved under seats. The fabric for bags has to hold up to all of it without fading, tearing, or looking worn after a few uses.
Most bag manufacturers work with one of three fabrics: nylon, canvas, or polyester. Nylon is the lightest of the three and stronger than it looks. It is the go-to for travel bags and backpacks where weight matters. Canvas has that thick, slightly rough texture that works well for tote bags and casual carry-alls, with a natural look that certain buyers specifically want. Polyester fabric is the one most manufacturers end up choosing, and it is not hard to see why. The cost is lower, the colour holds well in wash after wash, and it accepts a water-resistant coating without any issues.
One thing worth knowing: if your bags are meant for outdoor use, ask about PU-coated polyester. It adds a small amount to the per-metre cost, but it means your end customer is not stuck with a soaked bag after the first rain. That’s the kind of detail that gets you repeat business.
Sportswear: It Has to Work When Someone Is Sweating
Sportswear fabric does not really get tested until someone is actually moving in it. If the cloth holds sweat against the skin or loses its shape after five washes, no one will buy from that brand again. The return rates on poorly chosen fabric for sportswear are painful.
This is where you need a breathable fabric that moves with the body and manages moisture properly. A polyester-spandex blend is the strongest option we have seen for most sportswear. It stretches in every direction, dries fast, and does not sag or pill even after heavy use. For garments that need extra airflow like gym vests, cycling jerseys and running shorts, adding mesh on the back panel and underarms makes a real difference in how the product feels during a workout.
As a clothes and fabric manufacturer, we make moisture-wicking fabric that we test for stretch retention, colour fastness, and pilling before it leaves. Premium sportswear brands are increasingly asking about anti-bacterial finishes and UV protection too. Trail running and outdoor sports are growing categories, and buyers in that space expect the technical fabric to actually do something beyond looking good.
Shoes: Two Very Different Problems Under the Same Roof
Shoe uppers split into two completely different requirements depending on whether you are making fashion footwear or industrial footwear, and treating them the same is where a lot of manufacturers get into trouble.
For casual and sports shoes, polyester mesh and nylon are standard. They keep the shoe light, breathe well, and hold vivid printed colours. Knitted uppers have also been gaining ground. There is less material waste during cutting, and that seamless, form-fitting look is selling well right now across price points.
Industrial and safety footwear is a different conversation entirely. The fabric needs to be heavier, more resistant to abrasion, and in some cases flame-retardant. A lot of brands struggle here because they are sourcing light fabric for casual styles from one supplier and heavy fabric for safety styles from another. As textile manufacturers who keep both in stock, we become a single source for your full range, which means one call, one relationship, less time chasing two different order pipelines.
Safety Jackets: Not the Place to Cut Corners on Fabric
Safety jackets have actual compliance requirements. If the fabric does not meet the relevant standard and the jacket fails a site inspection, the brand takes the hit, and so does the buyer’s client. This is not an area where buying something slightly cheaper and hoping it works is a good strategy.
High-visibility jackets use fluorescent polyester in specific certified colours, paired with retroreflective tape. Fire-resistant jackets need FR-treated base fabric. And because workers wear these for long shifts (eight hours, sometimes more), the base cloth has to breathe. A jacket that traps heat is one that workers find ways to avoid wearing, which defeats the entire purpose of the safety gear.
As trusted wholesale fabric suppliers in India, we stock safety-grade fabric that meets EN ISO 20471 standards for high-visibility workwear. For procurement teams that need sourcing documentation along with the fabric, that is something we can provide. It is a surprisingly common requirement that a lot of fabric suppliers cannot fulfil.
Your Fabric Supplier Is Part of Your Product Quality
Every buyer eventually asks about MOQ and price per metre. That is fair, as margins matter and procurement has targets. But the buyers who have worked with us for years will also tell you that the real cost shows up in rejections and re-orders, not in what you paid per metre on the first purchase.
Aadiveer Fab India supplies bag manufacturers, sportswear brands, footwear producers, and safety-wear companies across India. We offer custom fabric, reasonable minimum order quantities, GST billing, and delivery nationwide. We send samples before any bulk commitment, because a confident buyer is a better long-term relationship than a fast sale that leads to a return call two months later.
If other textile companies in India have let you down on consistency, or you are placing your first serious bulk order and are not sure where to start, reach out. Tell us what you are making, the quantity, and what the end product needs to do, and we will take it from there.
